Conflicts in Sports.
Finding Solutions Together.

When discussions within a team, club, or association reach an impasse, there needs to be space for clarification. As a mediator, I support you in understanding different perspectives, addressing conflicts, and developing sustainable agreements.

Together, we’ll determine what kind of support is right for your situation—from initial guidance to mediation.

When Working Together in Sports Becomes Difficult

Within the Team

Dissatisfaction with playing time, differing expectations regarding performance, or tensions between athletes and coaches: When discussions reach an impasse and trust is lost, cooperation suffers—both in training and in competition.

Within the Club

Positions on the board harden, responsibilities remain unclear, or parents and the coaching staff clash. Volunteer work becomes a burden when decisions and mutual expectations can no longer be resolved together.

Within the Federation

Clubs feel sidelined in decision-making, selection and development criteria are questioned, or committees come into conflict. Differing interests, established structures, and interdependencies can make communication difficult.

What kind of support is right for your situation?

Sometimes what’s needed is a clarifying conversation; other times, it’s independent support over a longer period. And sometimes, responsibilities, protection needs, or legal issues must first be clarified. What matters most is what the people involved and the specific situation require.

I support athletes, team officials, clubs, and associations in finding the right approach—from initially sorting out an issue, through mediation, to strengthening their own conflict resolution skills.

Getting Your Bearings First

Are you going through a stressful situation but don’t yet know how to handle it? You don’t need to have fully grasped the issue or be able to name a specific procedure.

In a confidential conversation, I’ll listen and help you make sense of the situation: What’s causing you stress? Who’s involved? What has already been tried? Together, we’ll determine what the next logical step is and whether other specialized agencies should be involved. Sometimes this initial guidance is enough to help you regain the ability to take action.

Resolving Conflicts Together

When discussions reach an impasse, trust has been damaged, or internal attempts at resolution have stalled, independent facilitation can pave the way for a new understanding.

In mediation, I support the parties involved in articulating their perspectives and concerns, better understanding one another, and developing sustainable agreements. I structure the framework for the discussion and ensure that all parties are heard. The decisions remain in their hands.

Depending on the issue, facilitated conflict discussions, team-based resolution, or individual conflict counseling may also be appropriate. We’ll work together to determine which format is best suited to your needs.

Strengthening Conflict Management Skills

Would you like to handle difficult conversations with greater confidence, identify tensions earlier, or develop clear channels for resolution within your club or association?

Through presentations, workshops, and training programs, I’ll help you establish a constructive approach to managing conflicts in everyday sports life. Possible topics include communication skills, roles and expectations, and managing tensions within teams and committees. The content and scope are tailored to your responsibilities and needs.

Supporting Formal Proceedings

Complaint, disciplinary, or legal proceedings can clarify responsibilities and consequences. However, how people interact with one another during and after these processes often remains an open question.

This is where additional support can be provided: in preparing for and facilitating accompanying discussions, addressing communication issues, or rebuilding a functional working relationship.

The scope of the assignment and the role are clearly defined. This support does not replace necessary protective measures, investigations, or legal decisions.

These forms of support can be combined. An initial consultation may lead to mediation; after a conflict has been resolved, a workshop can help embed agreements into everyday life.

Collaboration with Clubs and Associations

Would you like to provide guidance to your member clubs in the event of conflicts, train those in leadership roles, or establish reliable channels for external support?

Together, we’ll develop a collaboration that fits your organizational structure. Options include individual presentations and workshops, training programs for coaches and board members, or support in resolving specific conflicts. Regular counseling services can also be part of our collaboration.

In doing so, we build on existing counseling and support services. We identify where additional support is needed and how internal responsibilities and independent conflict mediation can be effectively integrated.

Let’s figure out the next step together.

You don’t need to know yet what kind of support is right for you. Tell me about your situation—together, we’ll figure out how I can help you.
